The EL VALOR/ NATIONAL LOUIS UNIVERSITY partnership for the Doctorate of Philosophy in Community Psychology is part of our Leadership Through Education program which has as one of its goals to increase the number of qualified, culturally and linguistically skilled personnel in positions of leadership, especially individuals who can identify with the Latino community and other under-served communities.
This Ph.D. in Community Psychology is aimed at developing the skills necessary for advanced work at the interface of individuals, organizations, communities and public policy. Students who enter the program gain essential psychological, research, and collaborative skills to address an array of social issues, including but not limited to affordable housing, urban education, health and the environment. The program provides training in quantitative and qualitative methods, grant writing, prevention and intervention, evaluation, advocacy, community development, and policy change.
All classes will be held at the El Valor Carlos Cantu Children & Family Center. The cohort starts together and finishes together. It is designed for working people. Courses will be once a week, every Wednesday night from 4:30pm-9:30pm along with online coursework.
To join a doctoral program is an exciting yet serious and life-changing decision. At the information session, you will be given information to help you with this important decision. Details will be provided regarding the requirements, application process, program experience and financing. There will be an opportunity to ask questions of NLU representatives.
Those that are accepted into this program by NLU will be eligible to receive a scholarship from NLU & El Valor in the equivalent of 20% of the regular NLU tuition rate.
