JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general guidance of the Education Manager, the Education Supervisor is responsible leading and mentoring education staff to ensure seamless curriculum implementation, assure age-appropriate classroom, home activities and playground environments and comprehensive developmental programming for all infants, toddlers and expectant families including those with special needs. The Education Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the collection, record retention and assessment of child outcomes data. Additionally, the Supervisor will assist in the development and implementation of annual education staff training plans, cross component planning with sites staff, and coordinating activities to support the accreditation of licensed sites. The Education Supervisor will implement agency programming while adhering to state, federal and agency standards and regulations.

JOB FUNCTIONS: (include but is not limited to the following)

  • Ensure that a written curriculum is implemented at the site/program level that provides appropriate classroom and playground environments and comprehensive developmental programming for children, including English language and Spanish language  programming ;
  • Support Teachers/ Parent Infant Educators in the  implementation of an on-going  child assessment process that is linked to  curriculum goals and school readiness goals and provides for  the collection of information on children’s progress through the use of direct teacher/educator observation;
  • Monitor to ensure compliance in teaching strategies GOLD and COPA/ChildPlus systems.
  • Analyze child outcome data based on the on-going assessment schedule and report on progress made by children in meeting school readiness goals.
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team and participate in the School Readiness Committee
  • Work with teachers/educators and disability coordinator to ensure that the curriculum and ongoing child assessment process support the inclusion of children with disabilities;
  • Participate in the placement of newly enrolled children in partnership with social service staff;
  • Implement agency’s system which ensures that each child receives a developmental and social and emotional screening within 45 days of enrollment into the program;
  • Ensure that assigned program site(s) meet federal/state/city requirements for education services and staffing requirements;
  • Implement a system that involves parents in the development of classroom and home curriculum, staff parents conferences, and home visits;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the annual written teacher/educator education training plan;
  • Implement the system of individual professional development planning that supports continued teacher improvement and degree attainment, as indicated by agency and funding requirements;
  • Maintain an internal early child care and education monitoring system, including issues identified as part of the annual PIR, self assessment process and child outcome data collection;
  • Maintain a process of reporting and confidential record keeping in all areas of education services, including child outcome data and child daily attendance;
  • Coordinate and implement site/program transition planning for children and families into pre-school and from pre-school to elementary school, including children with special needs;
  • Participate with social service staff and Disability and Mental Health Manager, as part of an interdisciplinary team, in addressing the ongoing needs of special needs children and their families, including decisions to refer  for formal evaluation , development and implementation of an IFSP or IEP, classroom/home program planning, and advocacy;
  • Participate in the hiring of site/program early childhood staff, and in partnership with the education manager  and other involved agency staff and parents;
  • Act a team leader, mentor and supervisor for teaching/educator staff, and promote sharing of talent and knowledge among all education staff;
  • Implement system of individual professional development planning that supports continued teacher/educator improvement and degree attainment as required by agency and funding requirements;
  • Work with education manager and early childhood staff to implement and maintain activities that ensure all licensed sites are accredited through the national association for the education of young children;
  • Supervise and mentor interns
  • As needed, provides active supervision to ensure the safety of Early Head Start/Head Start children while in the classroom, during transitions, and while on the playground. Ensures that no child shall be left alone or unsupervised. Works with teachers/educators to ensure the safety of children during program time.
  • Participate in cross component planning with site program staff in support of interdisciplinary services to children and families, including integrating all educational aspects of the health, nutrition, and mental health services into program activities.
  • Be part of Safety committee, conduct drills and complete walk around.
  • Once a week have a late coverage day

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited university or college required;
  • Five to nine years of job-related prior experience required;
  • Fluent verbal and written English and Spanish communication required;
  • Proof of physical examination, tuberculosis and measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) screening within the last six months required;
  • Successful completion of First Aid/CPR certification required;
  • Current, valid Illinois driver’s license and proof of insurance required;
  • Reliable means of transportation required.
