PNC Announces Early Childhood Initiative with Donors Choose at El Valor #GreatDay Event

April 4, 2017

PNC representatives joined El Valor leadership and teaching staff at the Rey B. Gonzalez Children & Family Center in South Chicago to announce a new program designed to help pre-K teachers in public, charter, and Head Start classrooms obtain the tools and experiences they need to help give their students a head start in life.

April 4th was designated as Great Day, part of Great Month, PNC’s annual recognition of the launch anniversary of its Grow Up Great initiative and the company’s commitment to early childhood education. El Valor is a partner in Grow Up Great’s Words to Grow On, Chicago program. PNC President Scott Swanson read to the children, and PNC volunteers assembled tricycles and helped the children craft puppets. Mr. Swanson announced a new opportunity in partnership with Donors Choose to allow Head Start classrooms to benefit from the crowd-funding site!

Via Donors Choose, Head Start teachers can now request necessary books, materials, field trip funds, and more. Members of the community are then invited to donate funds to projects. As part of its Great Day celebration, PNC graciously matched donations to Head Start projects, ensuring they will be funded with ease! El Valor teachers and students are grateful for PNC’s generosity and continued support of early childhood education.
